Anything that can go wrong, will go (embarrassingly) wrong.
Hitting the BIG 2
Before I let the photos do the talking, I would like to say that it has been a pretty awesome Sunday cum Birthday. It’s way more than expected and I thank God for everybody who has made my day a little special in one way or another. Thanks for commencing day one of my 20th year of breathing by making me breathless every second. That’s exaggerated but I truly appreciate all the gestures, be it big or small. Thanks once again for a truly memorable and enjoyable day. I couldn’t ask for more, indeed.
Finally met up with burden Fungling on 300415 night after much delays due to mutual commitments. Explored a new ramen place to me under her recommendation which has a long queue. It’s supposed to be a birthday treat from her but I ended up paying as I still owed her a birthday treat for her 19th birthday too hahah. Still, she got me a free Gongcha afterwards.
We sat by the Singapore River thereafter, further catching up with each other. Got introduced to a tuition agent through her and I hope I can finally engage in this business although so far, I have yet to receive any news. The night ended in an epic way when she realised she left her laptop in the mall’s toilet when we were already on the bus. We ended up running back after alighting at the subsequent immediate bus stop lol. Thank God it’s kept intact.
Thanks for the great night to end off the crappy April.
May kicked off in a mundane yet peaceful manner as I slept the entire morning away and then spent the afternoon riding on my new pet bike.
Impromptu decisions were made, as usual, to cycle all the way to Bugis for lunch cum dinner. I took about 10 minutes to arrive there and had Genki Sushi for lunch. I’m not sure how much hundreds of dollars have I spent on that restaurant but it’s pretty worthwhile for the affordable quality food.
While dining halfway, I met Puihay and his GF there. Spent some time catching up at Blackball after my meal. The world is indeed pretty small.
Thereafter, I rode back to Kallang in search of a salon to have my hair trimmed. I couldn’t seem to find one that was satisfying and ended up visiting the salon at my childhood place. Thank God there was no queue and it’s also way cheaper than the rest. Met Guihong there and talked for awhile before heading off to NET.
NET was great and when it’s ended, I was surprised with a bowl of baby octopus together with a lit candle. Needless to say, it must all be the act of Qianhui who knows I love the tiny creature, I totally wasn’t expecting it but it’s funny how my church mates always surprised me with food that I love – two years ago, I was surprised with a bowl of wantonmee. Thanks guys for kick-starting my birthday 🙂
Left her place around 2230 and I had myself prata for supper cum dinner thereafter.
My baby octopus and I. If I have known of this, I probably wouldn’t order a serving of iidako for my lunch cum dinner at Genki Sushi earlier on in the afternoon hahah.
The supper after NET on Friday.
On Saturday 020515, I was awakened by the raucous arrival of my relatives followed by their thunderous conversations. They have visited my place to pay respects for my deceased ancestors. I was actually on bed until I couldn’t tolerate how many times have they teased Christianity in a way. Some inevitable debates ensued thereafter and I felt that it’s pretty much redundant because the other party was so filled with misunderstandings and bad impressions from experiences. It’s just a friendly session with no real grievances though. My big aunt then passed me a red packet for my birthday lol.
I lazed on bed afterwards and then decided to head to Bugis for my impromptu plans again. It’s around 1400 and I had my favorite barchormee for lunch. It’s so underrated and it certainly deserves more recognition. I patronised the national library after that and borrowed some books as I really need to rekindle my interests for engineering and also explore possible interests. Thereafter I spent some time on the 10th floor reading the book on Interior Designs. I bet that came as a shock to you as nobody would expect me to read that up. Truth to be said, I actually have a subtle penchant for home designs so I decided to find out more about it.
I then bought myself KOI and a packet of chips for Avengers at 1640. It’s probably the first time I watched a movie on my own for various reasons. It’s also a sudden choice. But it’s still an enjoyable moment as in the experience. The movie wasn’t that spectacular though.
The movie ended about 2000. I then went for shopping and bought myself some stuff woots. Good buy.
While the day was spent alone, I didn’t feel lonely. As much as I cherish time spent with people, I think that personal quality time is imperative too. As long as a balance is struck, then I guess my social lifestyle is pretty much healthy.
When the clock stuck 12 midnight on 030515, I received a text from Alson to ask me to come down to my void deck quickly. I mischievously replied that I’m not at home and then pressed the lift before making my way down using the stairs stealthily. When I reached the ground floor, I saw Alson, Amelia and Yukeling waiting aimlessly outside the lift, in hope that I would appear.
I don’t know why must I be that playful that I ruined their original plan by surprising them from behind with a birthday song. Of course, they were astonished as they didn’t expect that I will use the stairs LOL.
To my amazement, another group of friends suddenly popped up from behind a wall with a cake, preceding a birthday song together with the rest. It’s certainly a decent surprise. Thanks for commencing my 20th year of breathing on such an incredibly joyous tone!
Thanks for coming to surprise me and making huge sacrifices in doing so.
Amelia for cabbing down from workplace at a cost of $12 although I believe public transports were off service already.
Yukeling for stopping your Running Man..I know it meant a lot to you.
And Alson for coming despite suffering SERIOUSLY from flu and sickness. It’s a sign of aging.
The full cake that the midnight gang has prepared for me. How sweet. I mean the cake. And of course, the group la
The card given by Angelina, Sherilyn and Xinhui. It’s totally flooded with words of wishes and encouragement. Really appreciate it!
After the midnight surprise, Angelina, Sherilyn & Xinhui wanted supper. So I brought them to the prata shop nearby. The usual and original prata group didn’t make it though for reasons lol. Great supper under the great weather – stormy and thundery – which is my kind of weather.
Slept at about 0400 after coming back from supper and woke up at 0920 in the morning for service. Sermon was great. Was surprised with a salmon shepherd pie by church mates after that. Played some card games and then had my favorite TPY banmian for lunch. It’s a morning filled with joy and laughter. Thank God for the church, especially crazy Qianhui for going all out to ensure that I really had a blast since Friday hahah.
It’s about 1430 when I took a bus to attend band practice. While I was an hour late, the atmosphere was forgiving and welcoming. Time flew fast and I hope I could catch up with the band before the concert in July!
Thanks for the hilarious lunch session after service!
After the band practice, I headed to Plaza Sing to meet the people who really matter. The world couldn’t be any smaller when I actually met Alson in the basement together with Faith, my secondary school mate. It has been the umpteenth time I met him randomly on the streets.
I then had dinner at Nana’s Green Tea with the wolfpack. While dining halfway, Xinyu called me from behind and wished me. Singapore is really so small. After dinner, we headed to llao llao to have dessert. I was “surprised” with a grey hoodie jacket as a present then. Why the apostrophe? Because it’s pretty obvious la how they both appeared in jackets and Alika usually doesn’t wear it. Still, appreciate it though. Thanks 🙂
Deep down in my heart, their company was already sufficient to make my birthday a good one. Some friendship just can’t be measured by money and gifts. Their presence is my greatest present. Sorry for being so mushy but I have to say it hahahah.
Anyway, the night didn’t just end like this. After the lousy dessert, Melwin and I rushed to Cineleisure to catch FF7. It’s a super last minute decision. Alika couldn’t join us as he had to book in early the next day. The movie was better than expected and totally made my birthday a fully utilised one hohoh,
Just a failed attempt in capturing our faces when our dessert arrives,
STEP shot after movie with my ugly jackett
After the movie, when I was on my way home, I chanced upon this natural phenomenon in the clear night sky. It’s the legendary moon halo. The sight was spectacular and it’s like God’s present for me albeit it being ephemeral. Spent a good 5 minutes admiring the scene before heading home.
Reached home before midnight and had myself a little cake bought by my mom to celebrate as a family. Dad couldn’t be there as he was working. Shot’s taken by my sister who secretly may have a flair for photography lol.
On Monday 040515, I met up with Rebecca at night as a catch up and a farewell dinner before her flight to Australia in a few weeks’ time. Our plan to dine at Strictly Pancakes failed as it has closed down without updating its website. Still, that didn’t stop us from a cheap yet sumptuous dinner followed by desserts at Udders. This shot is one of the many failed attempts in capturing the session we had. Contrary to the mood of the photo, it’s more of a meeting where jokes were exchanged. Great to know that she is doing fine and things are optimistic.
